If I File Bankruptcy Will I Get a 1099 From My Creditors?
By Casey Yontz – Mesa Bankruptcy Lawyer
If the debt was cancelled because you filed bankruptcy, you will not owe any taxes for the amount discharged. Of course, your lender/creditor may send you a 1099, even though you filed bankruptcy. The IRS may also contact you even well after your bankruptcy is closed, however that doesn’t mean you owe the taxes. If this happens, you must respond to the IRS with a copy of your discharge paperwork, and a letter letting the IRS know that the debt was discharged in bankruptcy.
It is always recommended to seek the advice of an Bankruptcy Attorney in Arizona, before taking action.
